Carrier Surcharge update blog banner

UPS has announced another increase to its ground fuel surcharge table that will take effect on August 16, 2021. This comes barely a month after the company’s last fuel surcharge increase implemented on July 5.

Apparently, the last increase which averaged 3%, wasn’t enough. The new increase is significantly larger at almost 9% on average. It appears carrier is intent on utilizing fuel increases as a means to expand their margins, which is something a TransImpact market expert explained in this recent post about UPS’s record quarter – click here to read.

Here is the updated fuel surcharge table from the UPS announcement.

You’ll recall that UPS and FedEx increased their fuel surcharges within the past two months, with FedEx being higher at all fuel prices. This new UPS increase makes the carrier more expensive than FedEx at lower fuel prices and closes the gap in the $3.20 to $3.50 per gallon price range, where fuel prices are currently sitting.

As always, small parcel shippers should look closely at how the surcharge changes will impact your small parcel costs.
