UPS has announced its annual GRI for 2022, with an average increase of 5.9%. The increase matches FedEx’s as the highest increase in recent history from either carrier.
The announcement is no surprise on the heels of 2021’s extreme inflation. For the moment, however, shippers may want to focus on another UPS announcement from today regarding fuel surcharges. The GRI will not go into effect until December 26, so more pressing are the fuel surcharge increases that will be implemented on November 15.

Effective December 26, 2021, the published rates for our services will increase. This helps to support ongoing expansion and capability enhancements as we strive to maintain the high service levels you expect from UPS. Below is an overview of our 2022 Rates*.

The following changes will be effective December 26, 2021:
- The rates for UPS® Ground, UPS Air and International services will increase an average net 5.9%

Air Freight
Effective December 26, 2021, the rates for UPS Air Freight within and between the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico will increase an average net 5.2%.
