After last year, it’s likely everyone in supply chain was looking forward to — or at least hoping for — a bit of relief this year. But things are off to a rough start already.

In February’s Let’s Talk Ship webinar, Sarah Barnes-Humphrey, founder and host of Let’s Talk Supply Chain, joined TransImpact’s Jey Yokeley, executive director of Parcel Solutions. As host of several of her own supply chain shows, Sarah speaks to the most knowledgeable experts in the industry, and in this webinar she shares with Jey the best of what she’s learned in the past 12 months that can help up and down every company’s supply chain.

Here are three key takeaways from this episode:

  • Toilet paper shortages got all the attention at the start of the pandemic, but shortages are still happening – recently there were shortages in cream cheese and ketchup packets. This makes demand forecasting a central issue for companies.
  • What happens in one country can affect the supply chains in other countries, e.g. the truckers strike in Canada halted production on both sides of the border.
  • This year is likely to continue to be difficult. As one indicator, Costco has chartered its own vessels throughout the end of 2022.

Along with how to deal with the ongoing issues, Sarah also spent some time discussing the link between inflation and the supply chain.
